About us

History

The Trust was set up by Lord Deedes ( WF Deedes) in 1997 using money from his books, the first of which was “Dear Bill”. The Trust was set up with the aim of funding projects in developing countries worldwide with particular emphasis on Africa.

The Trust was boosted by appeals run by The Daily Telegraph, where Bill had been Editor. The assets of the Trust are now approximately £250,000 and the Trustees make grants totalling between £10,000 to £25,000. The aim is to utilise growth in the Trust’s investment portfolio, without diminishing the underlying value.
